Little by little and bit by bit I’m gonna make that lady fall out of her heels Inch by inch and row by row I’m gonna make that lady know That this is real You smile at me and I smile at you And we flirt but we always just skirt this issue And it never seems to end up like it ought I smile at you and you smile at me And we’re always so friendly But I think it’s time we just start this off Little by little and bit by bit I’m gonna make that lady fall out of her heels Inch by inch and row by row I’m gonna make that lady know That this is real We’re wasting time that we don’t have We’re burning daylight and it’s sad, my friend To watch the clock make its way around again You smile at me and I smile at you And we flirt but we always just skirt this issue And it never seems to end up like it ought I smile at you and you smile at me And we’re always so friendly But I think it’s time we just start this off

Go buy a quart of milk and bring back your mamma all the change Go buy a quart of milk and bring back your mamma all the change But I like those shoes and I like that hat And I wanna dress my baby up in something like that Go buy a dozen eggs and bring back your mamma all the change Go buy a dozen eggs and bring back your mamma all the change But I wanna take my baby out tonight And I wanna dress her up all expensive like When robins build their nests They build their nests with colored plastic And with bright, bright colored string When robins build their nests They build their nests with anything Well there’s a jar full of pennies that I keep under my bed So I’ll go buy a loaf of bread and won’t stop along the way And I’ll bring back my mamma all the change

Well I’m falling in love For the first time in days NYC is all leaning my way There’s a chance I’m ready to take I got two legs I’m ready to break Unless you’re here it’s hard to see Nature versus NYC There’s a circus tent hanging over this town I’m gonna drive one of these stakes into the ground There’s a circus tent hanging over this town I’m gonna drive one of these stakes into the ground I’m wearing some bright red boots and a bright red belt There’s no mistaking me for anyone else There’s a chance I’m ready to take I got two legs I’m ready to break Unless you’re here it’s hard to see Nature versus NYC There’s a circus tent hanging over this town I’m gonna drive one of these stakes into the ground There’s a circus tent hanging over this town I’m gonna drive one of these stakes into the ground

I know I’m calling and it’s much too late But I just wanna make sure that you’re safe I’ve spent too long with my head down I’ve spent too long staring at the floor I shouldn’t call you anymore

Well, I’m shaking like a jellyroll Oh how I long to hear You say come back inside, boy Cause it’s much warmer in here I’m drifting like a piece of wood Oh how I wish you’d free My body from the water of this deep, dark sea But I don’t have a chance anymore I don’t have a chance anymore Well you know just what you’re looking for And I don’t have a chance Are you so sure that we don’t fit? When did this get so definite? Is there just even a little bit of hope? Cause I can’t think that I don’t have a chance anymore I don’t have a chance anymore Well you know just what you’re looking for And I don’t have a chance You can go crazy for love that’s not there (you can go crazy) You can go crazy for love that’s just left (you can go crazy) You can go crazy for love When it falls right out of your hands You can go crazy for love when you don’t stand a chance

New York City can be so loud I want to see some fishes swimming around All these people are driving me insane I want to see some polar bears playing Nature program, nature program You're all I want to know Let me fall asleep tonight in your glow
9.
You’re one for the records You’re one for the books And all the girls in New York town Are going crazy for your looks And I should keep my distance Because I know how you can be I should keep my distance But I lost all the sense my mother gave to me So just come on a make my ears turn red And my skin scream and shout Come on and give me one of those kisses I heard so much about I’ve seen your lovers, crazy-eyes Wondering around Manhattan After they’ve seen you walking about With this one or that one And the girl at your side She snuggles warm and close Completely blind that in a few months’ time She’ll be the one who is cut lose So just come on a make my ears turn red And my skin scream and shout Come on and give me one of those kisses I heard so much about

Laurel 02:23
I have long learned to write Songs without mentioning your name outright But I felt the need to write this one Without any subtlety Laurel I need your smile back I need you back around I’m tired of feeling like The smallest thing in town I have long rehearsed Verse after verse Chorus after chorus until the end So I think by now you know that I’m going To mention your name once again Laurel I need your smile back I need you back around I’m tired of feeling like The smallest thing in town

Well I wanna sing songs about high school dances And I wanna sing songs about new romances I don’t wanna sing any of that fancy stuff That’s the kind of stuff that I’m so sick of I wanna wanna wanna sing songs of love Well I wanna sing songs about summer days in the summer time When lovers lay fast asleep with each other in the sunshine I don’t wanna sing any of that fancy stuff That’s the kind of shit that I’m so sick of I wanna wanna wanna sing songs of love As sure as I know that I’m made of blood And as sure as the sky’s above I wanna wanna wanna sing songs of love Well I wanna sing songs about groovy guys and groovy chicks They’re kissing each other Kissing each other full right on the lips I don’t wanna sing any of that fancy stuff That’s the kind of stuff that I’m so sick of I wanna wanna wanna sing songs of love As sure as I know that I’m made of blood And as sure as the sky’s above I wanna wanna wanna sing songs of love Well I wanna sing songs about summer days in the summer time When lovers lay fast asleep with each other in the sunshine

Let your sorrows have a few days free Let them spend some time out of the city We can have some fun, yeah let's give it a shot So just let your sorrows have a few days off Let your sorrows have a few days rest They've been overworked, girl you should know best We can have some fun, yeah we can have a lot So just let your sorrows have a few days off Let them go out to the country, let them breathe some country air Let them take the West Side Highway till they get far far from here Maybe they'll come back, maybe they will not But just let your sorrows have a few days off

Let’s go get the girls, boys Let’s go get the girls You know the beach is about to close, boys So let’s go get the girls You know they told us they needed a ride back to Houston Well the dark clouds are forming and the white caps are rolling in Let’s go get the girls The life guard’s stereo has dead batteries Let’s go get the girls Because no one wants to be caught in the rain Let’s go get the girls, boys Let’s go get the girls You know the beach is about to close, boys So let’s go get the girls They told us they needed a ride back to Houston Well the last time we saw them they were on the sand They were getting some food from the refreshment stand They got some French fries with ketchup it was all over their fingers They were licking it off and tasting all the sand I was only in there for a real quick dip They couldn’t have given us the slip Let’s go get the girls, boys Let’s go get the girls You know the beach is about to close, boys So let’s go get the girls They told us they needed a ride back to Houston Knee deep in the Gulf of Mexico say yeah Knee deep in the Gulf of Mexico say hell yeah Well how they getting home they’re so young It’s a long drive from Galveston Well how they getting home they’re so young It’s a long drive from Galveston Let’s go get the girls, boys Let’s go get the girls You know the beach is about to close, boys So let’s go get the girls They told us they needed a ride back to Houston

about

Going way back. These tracks were recorded when I first got to NYC in 2001. The original version of the Blue 88's had a lineup of guitar, drums, violin, and cello.

There are some interesting things happening here... for example the guitar solo I do on 'I don't have a Chance' sounds kind of like the sax line in Glenn Frey's 'You Belong to the City'. Google it...the video has some nice shots of Glenn belonging to the city.

Everything is rough, but the vibe here is good. Sarah kills it on the violin, Raul play some beautiful cello, and some of the songs show some promise. Maybe you'll dig it...
