Madame Ching

about

I wrote these lyrics about the infamous female pirate for the amazing Brooklyn band Nanuchka, a sadly defunct outfit featuring Roy Gurel, Yula Beeri, Assaf Spector, Yuval Semo, and Aaron Thurston. Madame Ching can be found on their 2006 album ‘Mediterranean’.

lyrics

Her shadow drowned my twin
Her keys don’t fit the locks she just breaks in
In the belly of a boat they salt the skins
It’s creeping up the coast

With closing eyes they watch
The faces of unusual clocks
The pennies lose their shine and fill the socks
They’re walking on their toes

Sorrow comes in twos
Perfect sized hypocrite shoes
Tomorrow’s no one’s friend
You turned me over to them

For this ride
The men all lose their teeth and curse the time
The men all lose their memories of wine
It’s somewhere down below
It’s somewhere down below

The phones are always ringing off the hooks
The heavy lifting’s all paid off the books
The mermaids know the language of the crooks
Sometimes they need a tow

Sorrow comes in twos
Perfect sized hypocrite shoes
Tomorrow’s no one’s friend
You turned me over to them
