Well I was wet behind the ears
A girl of very years
I still had a pound or two of baby fat
I was fresh out of the university
It was my first time in the city
And I walked alone though Potzdamer Platz

Then I saw him in the crowd he looked wealthy and he looked proud
He was standing there in his spats
He asked me to a drink I didn’t even think
And we held hands in Potsdamer Platz

Well the night was young and so were we
There were Christmas hanging in the trees
We fell in love and that was that
In Potsdamer platz

Well he was a chemist like myself
He said he didn’t care for wealth
Money he said he really gives a damn for it
What really drove him was lure
That science could somehow cure
Everything that was wrong on this old planet

Well it wasn’t long before we married
His baby I quickly carried
I moved into his county estate
The place was big and had its charm
But it all smelled like a barn
And the smell has yet to dissipate

Well the night was young and so were we

Then everything turned sad
When our son he died at birth
Our house filled up with gloom
There was no laughter and no mirth
his love it turned to money
And greed filled up his heart
And the man who once wanted to save the world
Only thought of his next deutchmark

I need to breathe some air that’s clear
When will he realize that love is worth more then cash
